The Galaktacus Heralds Two wax all kinds of poetic on their favorite things of the past year, making and breaking categories willy-nilly like only world-eaters can. Come take a listen whilst screaming and gnashing teeth as we fail to mention all your favorites.

This week's theme music is "Tartuffe" by Phopagandhi

Dec 6, 2017

Galaktacus gets around to exploring the meditative, sad, and beautiful cyberpunk world of Blade Runner, exploring our love of the original film and our thoughts on the longtime coming sequel, Blade Runner 2049.

Aug 9, 2017

This week Galaktacus is rocketing off to Alpha after shopping in a multi-dimensional street market based on receiving a mental message from the past. We are talking about the beautiful insanity of the new Luc Besson film, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. What worked. What really, really didn't? Tune in and find out!

The Chosen Heralds of Galaktacus have been honored with the Herculean nay, Sisyphean task of examining the metric ass-ton of geek news coming out of the major conventions of the season, including the insurmountable Comic-Con of San Diego. While there is no way to completely successful at such an endeavor, we discuss the big news that means the most to us as we prepare our cosplay costumes and save our fortunes to go to the stars by way of the swamps of Orlando. What does this mean? Listen and find out!

Jul 26, 2017

The Heralds of Galaktacus get off our cosmic surfboards and belt into a very fast car as we explore the heist-ridden, tone-shifting, groove-grooving world of Edgar Wright's film Baby Driver. How does this film compare to his British Cornetto Trilogy or his super-heightened Scott Pilgrim. Listen in to Galaktacus and find out!

Jul 12, 2017

Galaktacus takes some time to talk about a character near (literally in the case of Kettner and his back tattoo) and dear to our hearts as we dig into the spider sense-tingling, wall-crawling, web-slinging, model-marrying, web fluid-inventing, orphan everyman, Spider-Man! Just like Peter Parker himself would experience, this episode is late due to the challenges of balancing planet-eating with other personal challenges, but like Spider-Man, Galaktacus will prevail and bring you the best conversation this side of the East River.

Jul 5, 2017

Galaktacus challenges the Maker and all of the Maker's apprentices when we examine Joe Abercrombie's wonderful fantasy fiction, from the epic-deconstructing First Law Trilogy, to the genre-bending followup novels, and the heart-breaking YA Shattered Sea series. Are we talking about a fan-favorite but not-yet mainstream fantasy author? You bet we are! Do you care? You will when you listen to the new episode of Galaktacus!  You have to be realistic about these things.

The Galaktacus duo take a dark trip into a Dark Universe as we unwrap the bandages, dust off the sarcophagus, and dare to face the curse of the Mummy. From Boris Karloff to Tom Cruise, we all talk about the cinematic rise of undead Egyptian dustomancers and the place they hold in our jarred and preserved hearts. We also talk about the potential of Universal Studio's attempt at franchise resurrection and whether or not to leave some properties to rest in peace. Come and take a listen...if you dare!

Jun 21, 2017

Galaktacus descends on the island of Themyscira to get our butts kicked in slow-motion by an army of Amazons as we discuss the film Wonder Woman. We talk about this bright spot in the bleakness of the DC Cinematic Universe and what it means for that franchise and all superhero movies going forward. This is a fun conversation you won't want to miss, and you can trust me because I'm currently ensnared by the Lasso of Truth.

Jun 14, 2017

Galaktacus descends upon Central City to visit our favorite Scarlet Speedster, the Flash. We talk about our affection for the multitude of characters to don the lightning bolts and discuss the unique place that the Flash occupies in the DC Universe. Galaktacus then makes a quick visit to the CW Verse to discuss the future of the Flash television program. Run, don't walk, to download this episode!

Jun 7, 2017

This week Galaktacus comes bursting out of the chests (and backs) of the geek culture multiverse. We break down our love of xenomorphs everywhere but wonder who was asking for the true story of how aliens are made. Find out how Alien: Covenant stacks up to the best and worst of the franchise in terms of thrills, chills, and face-hugging kills!

May 31, 2017

Galaktacus digs into the world of the most mutated mutants of the mutants by exploring the X-Men properties that don't quite fit in with the actual X-men. We're catching up with James Mangold's Logan and Noah Hawley FX series Legion to discuss what one can do with X-Men characters when you move away from the X-Men. Can this kind of move escape the convoluted timelines and Rush Hour Rattner taint of the X-Universe? Listen and find out!

May 24, 2017

Galaktacus remains true to its name by devouring a specific type of world this week, Dungeon World. Scott and Kett talk about their experiences with Dungeon World, a tabletop role-playing game combining new school narrative-heavy rules with old school, Dungeons & Dragons-inspired dungeon-crawl, murder-hobo goodness. It's a fun conversation for gaming newbies and hardcore grognards alike, so grab your sword, magic wand, and ten foot pole as we descend into another episode of Galaktacus!

May 17, 2017

Galaktacus returns to outer space to see what Marvel's unlikely superhero team are up to in Volume Two of Guardians of the Galaxy. Scott and Kettner discuss their experience with the Guardians prior to the movie franchise, the triumphs and missed opportunities of this offering, and the mutual love and respect of the Rooker/Stallone masterpiece, Cliffhanger. Do not miss out!

May 10, 2017

Galaktacus assembles to catch up on the nerdy stuff going on in our lives, including tabletop roleplaying games, movie trailers, and comic books! That's right, Galaktacus is invading the comic book stores and laying waste to the spinner rack as we introduce our new segment, Wednesday Warriors. In it, we start the conversation about two specific comics, Kill or Be Killed Vol. 1 by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips and Batman #21 by Tom King and Jason Fabok. One of these comics is great. The other...less so. Tune in to find out which one is which.

May 3, 2017

Galaktacus returns to the mean streets of Brooklyn pretending to be every other part of NYC in the way only a Netflix Marvel show can with our discussion of Iron Fist. Listen as we try to make the best of a flawed show, to say the least, to find hope for the Defenders. Are we successful? Listen and find out!

Apr 26, 2017

Galaktacus sits down again with Liz Prince to talk about the exciting, always-changing, creativity-inspiring world of indie comics. Liz and Kett compare and contrast their experiences in the fickle world of making independent funny books in the 21st Century as we all try to define what makes a comic book "indie" anymore. Come join us for a thought-provoking conversation with your favorite planet-devouring podcast!

Galaktacus sits down with noted comic creator and Santa Fe ghost-expert, Liz Prince, to talk about her new series, Coady and Creepies. After listening, the wise among you will want to learn more about Liz and her impressive body of work at her website or contribute to her Patreon account. Enjoy this conversation, the gas station chimichanga of Galaktacus episodes!

We turn our attention to a little skull-like island in the Pacific and get crazy with the the grapest of all apes, Kong himself. Can our enjoyment of giant primates surpass the cluttered plot and glut of charismatic non-characters. Grab your John C. Reilly-branded katana and take a helicopter ride with us to Skull Island and find out!

Apr 5, 2017

Galaktacus is back for the "big payback!" Following up on John Wick, we're talking our all-time favorite revenge films. From "The Count of Monte Cristo" and "Point Blank" to "Unforgiven" and "The Revenant," no matter the era, the need for vengeance above and beyond the law is a truly entertaining trope. So give a listen here!

Mar 29, 2017

On Galaktacus, our love of dogs knows no bounds and that's why this episode is devoted to the canine avenger himself, John Wick! Keanu creates yet another compelling chapter in his career as this new man in black. But why and how does John Wick work? And is he the hero we needed at this moment in time?

Give a listen here http://bit.ly/Galaktacus and then come back next week when we dig deeper into the genre of the "revenge movie."

Galaktacus and Legos have always clicked but what happens when you add Batman (our patron superhero saint) to the mix? On this episode, we deconstruct The Lego Batman Movie brick by brick. Is it a film that's fan service at its finest? Or is it an overproduced toy commercial?

Give a listen here and come back next week for a follow-up on the DC Comics Animated Universe.

Galaktacus loves a mystery! Is the BBC’s “Sherlock” the definitive modern take on the character? Or is it “Elementary” my dear Watson? Either way you deduce it, we’re at peak Sherlock Holmes—with no end in sight. So where does that leave these iconic characters going forward? We posit some new takes on reinventing the world’s greatest detective and his cast of characters to clear up that very mystery! So give a listen here!

Galaktacus has awoken from its deep, wintery hibernation refreshed, reformatted and, quite frankly, starving! Luckily there’s an entire multiverse of pop culture out there for us to feed on. We’re trying out some new things on this episode and also talking about one of the oldest (130-years by our count) and most enduring characters in all of modern film, television and fiction—Sherlock Holmes (and of course Dr. Watson). We’ll be delving into the original dynamic detective duo and why their various adventures and reinventions continue to capture our imaginations. Plus we play a game of Elevator Action (now with real time limits!) and pitch the detective shows most worthy of dusting off for the modern day. So give a listen here and then come back next week when we dig deeper into BBC’s Cumberbatch-tastic Sherlock series.
